Is there a $20 Liberty different date analysis??
The pre-1933 post got me thinking about $20 Liberty double eagles. I took HS's advice & did a search on "Saints" and came up with a very good article on what are the better/rare dates for the St. Gaudens.
Question = Is there a similar different date analysis article for the $20 Libertys?? Thanks, Bill |
Re: Is there a $20 Liberty different date analysis??
theres a few more libs then saints, so it would be analysis of different sectors.
I had one on the libs as well as the saint, I'll try and find it for you but I have a feeling it was left on my old laptop. On a side note libs look more like a usable coin while saints are just art. I really want a ship wreck Lib, they look amazing. |

http://www.golddealer.com/specialreport.asp From your KEYBOARD to my EARS - so I hope this helps with your understanding. :36_3_12: Remember - like Maybury sadi, "there is risk in any investment - even holding cash - as they print it until the cows come home. Sadly they never do and they never stop printing a lot extra." :4_1_72: |
Re: Is there a $20 Liberty different date analysis??
Mr. HS Sir,
Would you recommend that a novice like myself buy a common date Saint like those listed on your suggested site, or should I be pickier & look in person for a sharply struck/REAL Purty "better date" coin in the same MS65 grade for a little more money or an purty MS64 for the same price?? (Yes I AM reading Mr. Bowers' double eagle book!!) Thanks, Bill |

I would select RIGHT now a MS64 or MS65 as they are BOTH truly undervalued compared to MS63 and MS66 types. That said I would probably call CNI; or go on-line; or go local and PICK PCGS first NGC second coins that really looked nice - or ask CNI seller (his name is in GIM under dealers) to pick me out 1 to 5 of them. I would ASK for a 1926 common date first 1928 common date second and 1927 common date third. 1926 because it is real low in population 1928 because they are well struck and harder to find 1927 although extremly common they are well struck 1923D fourth somewhat hard to find hope that helps, HS:wink: |

From the PCGS website; Behind the Scenes at PCGS PCGS's staff of graders is selected from an elite group of world-class numismatic experts. Each grader is experienced not only in the PCGS standards, but also in the proper handling of all numismatic items. During grading, each coin is carefully and independently examined. PCGS utilizes a grading scale based on published standards and an extensive grading set of coins. Once the grading process is complete, the coin (with a certification tag indicating its individual identification number, denomination and grade), is sonically sealed inside a tamper-evident coin capsule. Finally, it is returned to the grading room for verification by another expert. Only after this final verification is the coin returned to the marketplace with its guaranteed PCGS grade. http://www.pcgs.com/behind.chtml  Coins graded by PCGS usually will bring a higher re-sell price do to the above. |

A while back, NCG graded an astonishing numbers of MS70s. This cost them some credibility. An NCG grade doesn't mean what it used to for a lot of people. |
Re: Is there a $20 Liberty different date analysis??
Always BUY the coin never the grade - that's what those 40 hours of study do for you - you become your OWN grader to confirm the grade ON the slab - you do.
I've bought over graded coins for "cheap" prices from inferior graders and regraded them with PCGS and NGC - and even ANACS if they were CLEANED prior. IE: 1909 D/D Saint 1909/8 pair of SAINTS of the top of my head. the 1909 D/D was graded 1909 D - so the additional D was a nice planned for surprise!:111: |
